How You Should Heat Your Home This Winter

As the cold season approaches, it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll keep your house warm. A few centuries ago, the only options were warm furs and blocks of burning wood, whether the flames were kindled in a cave or a stone parlour. Wood burning heaters are still a popular choice, but nowadays, you can enjoy the visual and psychological comfort of a log fire combined with the convenience of gas or electric furnaces.

In modern fireplaces, gas, ethanol, or electricity might be the power behind the heat, but the furnace is often embellished with artificial logs, stones, or crystals, as well as realistic faux flames where applicable. They all look, sound, and feel just like real fire, so the choice of what to buy depends on your taste and budget. Here are three sample fireplaces currently available in our Home Heat & BBQ showrooms.

Lopi 564HO GS2

This gas furnace uses one of three technological options to produce authentic-looking flames. When you buy your Lopi 564, you can choose between Dancing Fyre, Ember Fyre, or Diamond Fyre burners. The fireplace comes with a standard viewing panel made of pyro-ceramic glass, and can heat areas of nearly 160m2.

The 564 HO has a convenient remote controlled activation panel and has built-in accent lights. Inside the flames, you can choose to have artificial media that resembles driftwood, logs, or tumbled stone. You can also embed a liner of black enamel as an additional feature.

Bordelet EVA 992

A fireplace makes a statement in itself, especially one with real live logs. However, if you want to stand out even more, consider getting a hanging fireplace. Bordelet furnaces comprise a horn-shaped chimney suspended from the ceiling and hovering over a grate that holds your burning logs.

The grate and chimney can be centrally positioned, offering a 360-degree view of the fire and creating a dramatically beautiful visual effect. Bordelet Eva 992 is the largest fireplace in the range. They’re produced by hand and in limited numbers, so you’ll be part of an exclusive club. The grate has a removable ash pan for easy clean up, and can be left as is or finished with yellow or black firebricks.

Regency GF900L

For home owners more interested in a clean, contemporary look, Regency GF900L insert fireplace is perfect. It’s ensconced into the wall and fits flush with no protrusions. Its wide viewing panel showcases artificial driftwood flames sitting on glowing embers that belie the gas powering this furnace. It’s encased in the wall, so it has no chimney, but there’s a direct vent system.

The ceramic embers radiate consistently, and the fireplace is ignited electronically, regulated by its 3-speed fan. Reflective side panels of black enamel help with light and heat distribution, and you can add optional features like a stainless steel door frame or black glass. To heat other rooms using the same source, you can install distribution ducts.
