Which One Is Perfect For You? Popular BBQ Grills

Winter night is the best relaxing in your backyard as you treat yourself to juicy steaks, hot dogs, hamburgers, and so forth. A barbecue is as good as the grill used to prepare it. With the flurry BBQ grills currently available in the market, it can be difficult to identify the best fit for your needs.

Here is a detailed overview of the common types of grills:

Gas Grills

The majority of BBQ grills in the market use gas. They run on either methane or propane. Gas BBQ grills are ideal for people who want to cook fast without having to experience the hassles associated with other fuels such as charcoal.

The main disadvantages of gas BBQ grills are their expensiveness and the flavour of the food they produce. As compared to charcoal grills, gas grills are costlier. They also lack the smoke flavour produced by charcoal grills.

Charcoal Grills

As the name suggests, these grills use charcoal lumps as the source of energy. Cooking with charcoal consumes more time and resources than gas, but advocates of this method still use it because of the unique flavour it gives to food. Charcoal grills are best-suited for people who love smoking meats. Cooking with charcoal is deemed more ‘romantic’ than cooking with gas.

On the downside, cooking with charcoal can be rather cumbersome. It takes lots of time to get  the grill up and running. Furthermore, you have to clean the grill after cooking to prevent the accumulation of ashes.

Electric Grills

Electric grills use electricity to produce the heat required to heat food. These types are perfect for locations without access to gas or charcoal. They can also come in handy in areas where there regulations against using grills that produce fire – namely gas and charcoal grills.

Similar to the other variants, electric grills also have a shortcoming. The absence of fire means that the desired smoky flavour is impossible to attain.

Portable Grills

Portable BBQ grills can run on either gas or charcoal – the bottom line is that they can be moved from one spot to another with relative ease. This type of grill was made for people who love cooking while on a picnic. Its small size makes it the ideal travelling companion.

While the size of portable grills makes them unique, it is also the biggest source of concern. It is practically impossible to cook a large amount of food at the same time on these grills. Thus, if you are travelling as a group, be prepared for an extended period of cooking.

The purpose for which you intend to use your grill should determine the type you purchase. That said, remember that only charcoal grills guarantee that unique smoky flavour that many desire.
